Seven-year-old Reginald lives with his grandmother in Somanya, a small town in Ghana’s Eastern Region. Born in Akpamu, he lost his mother at age three and has since been raised on a modest farmer’s income. Despite financial challenges, his enthusiasm for learning and fascination with machines stand out, according to his grandmother.

From the moment he first saw a bicycle’s chain and gears, he was hooked. Instead of playing at recess like many of his classmates, he examined toy cars, turning them over and perhaps asking how the wheels worked. At home, he collected bits of scrap wire and bottle caps to try making his own gadgets, sketching simple designs whenever paper was available. In class, his teachers say he frequently asked questions and offered to help classmates.

At Somanya M/A Primary School, teachers noticed his eagerness and interest with math problems or science diagrams. He performed near the top of his class even when he lacked proper supplies. In late 2023, a volunteer from SparkSTEM Foundation identified Reginald as a candidate for our Adopt a Child Program. In January 2024, SparkSTEM began covering his school fees, providing notebooks, pencils, and storybooks to support his education. These resources helped him focus on learning, rather than worrying about where to find paper or pens.

SparkSTEM also supported his well-being. We visited quarterly to ensure his grandmother had the support she needed, and a small monthly stipend covered nutritious meals and clean uniforms. With these essentials in place, Reginald could concentrate on exploration rather than daily survival.

Each day, we hope he moves closer to his dream one step at a time. We’re excited to see what the future holds as he grows into a fine young man who can become whoever he wants to be and make a positive impact on his world.

At just seven years old, Reginald shows that age and resources don’t limit potential—only opportunity does. By supporting him through SparkSTEM’s Adopt a Child Program, donors help turn his curiosity into real skills. In Somanya, while his grandmother tends her small farm, the seven-year-old Reginald continues to dream, tinker, and learn—ready to transform challenges into discovery. Reginald's story is just one of many such examples where your generous donation can make lasting positive impact.
